PIL against “illegal” hospitalization of HDIL directors: Bombay High Court orders pre-hearing deposit of ₹1 lakh

A Bench of Acting Chief Justice SV Gangapurwala and Justice SG Chapalgaonkar asked the petitioner’s counsel what grievance his client suffered due to such hospitalisation.

“PIL one can file, but provided that you are also somewhere affected. How are you affected here in anyway?” the Court asked.

The counsel pointed out that while the directors were admitted in Kokilaben Ambani private hospital and were “enjoying the entire 10th floor to themselves, other citizens were suffering for lack of place”.

The lawyer also asked the Court to look at the photos submitted by the petitioner, Iram Sayed, in her petition filed in 2020.

The photos allegedly supported the petitioner’s claim that the Wadhawans were conducting their business affairs and signing office documents from the hospital itself.
