The case arose from an incident wherein Ansari and his brother Abbas Ansari had allegedly threatened the Mau district administration.
Abbas Ansari was the Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party candidate from the Mau Sadar seat at the time, and has since been granted regular bail in the matter.
The Allahabad High Court had, however, refused Umar Ansari anticipatory bail, leading to the instant appeal before the top court.
