Duration of Internship
January 31, 2022- March 31, 2022.
How did you Apply?
I received an internship opportunity at Sync Legal as I secured the first position in Kanooniyat’s Mediation Plan Drafting Competition. Thus, I did not independently apply through their website. My duration of the internship was of two months.
First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, First Impression
The following documents had to be submitted with reference to the formalities:
1. Marksheet of last semester/trimester.
2. Two Professional References with contact details along with the reference of the academic in charge of the placement cell.
3. Aadhar Card (mandatory) along with College ID Card.
4. Clear Colour Passport size Photograph(Recent).
My first impression of the internship was that the Managing Partner Mr. Prakhar Dixit and the Associate Mr. Siddharth Singh were always very approachable and always made interns feel like a part of the firm constantly. taking their opinion on different aspects into consideration. This made interns feel closely attached to the firm.
Main Tasks
Main tasks included research on varied topics of law such as election law, family law, constitutional law, and law of evidence amongst others. Furthermore, I learnt how to draft an application against the injunction, and consumer complaint amongst other kinds. I also attended various court proceedings at different courts in Delhi, virtually.
I received the opportunity to work on mediation cases by SAMA. I was entrusted to call up clients, explain the mediation process to them and ask for their consent for the mediation process. We were given proper mediation training sessions before we contacted the clients.
The firm was in the midst of introducing CYMAC (Council for Young Mediators, Arbitrators and Conciliators), which is a networking platform for budding lawyers interested in the field of ADR. Thus, the interns were heavily involved from its inception- be it brainstorming taglines to ideating posts on social media.
Work Environment
The work environment was positive and very conducive to a holistic learning experience.
Good things
It was a fruitful experience which instilled a lot of confidence in me and improved my knowledge of the law in varied fields.
Bad things
There are no bad things per se. However, only on a few days the work used to be a little hectic and interns were made to work beyond working hours, but due to the urgency of the work it was understandable.
Accommodation & Conveyance to Office
This was an online internship so I did not look for accommodation.
Stipend
There was no stipend provided for this internship.
