Man beaten to death by unidentified robbers: Police

Gurugram, May 23 (PTI) A 22-year-old youth was robbed of his valuables and beaten to death by unidentified assailants in Manesar near here weeks before his marriage, police said on Monday.

Victim Ashish Kumar was accosted by robbers at a desolate stretch near the KMP underpass on his way back home from work on a motorbike on Saturday night and was attacked by robbers who fled after snatching his mobile phone and a silver chain, they said.

A Panipat native, Ashish lived in a rented house in Bilaspur near here along with his family members and was talking to his fiancée on the phone when he was accosted by robbers, the police said.

Amid the disrupted conversation, Ashish’s fiancée overheard him pleading with unknown people to spare his life in lieu of whatever valuables he had with him, police said, adding the phone got disconnected after that.

Alarmed at what she overheard, Ashish’s fiancée informed his parents about it and they, in turn, informed the police and began a search for him, police said.

While retracing his route back home from his workplace, Ashish’s brother Ajay and their father found him lying badly injured by roadside bushes with his motorcycle too lying nearby, police said.

Ajay and his father rushed Ashish to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead, SHO Subhash Chand, of the IMT, Manesar police station said.

On Ajay’s complaint, a murder-cum-robbery case against unknown assailants has been lodged at the IMT Manesar police station, he said, adding the police have started the probe and formed six teams to nab the culprits.
