Delhi High Court forms committee to examine whether all bar association elections in capital can be held in one day

The Court passed the order on a plea by Advocate Nitin Kumar, who had raised concern that there was no uniformity in the tenure of leadership of office bearers in different bar associations, as bar elections are presently held on different dates.

The petitioner told the Court that in Punjab and Haryana, a module has been framed to hold the elections on the same day. A similar practice can be adopted in Delhi as well, Kumar submitted.

In view of these submissions, the Court ordered the constitution of the committee to look further into the issue. Meanwhile, the petitioner was asked to make all the bar associations a party to the case.

The matter will be considered next on September 6.
