About the Organization
The Competition Commission of India (CCI), established by the Central Government on October 14, 2003, is entrusted with the mission to uphold fair competition practices in India’s markets. Comprising a chairperson and 6 Members appointed by the Central Government, CCI’s objectives include eliminating anti-competitive practices, promoting and sustaining competition, protecting consumer interests, and ensuring freedom of trade.
It adjudicates on competition law violations, provides expert opinions on competition issues, advocates for pro-competitive policies, raises public awareness about competition benefits, and offers training programs to enhance stakeholders’ understanding of competition law. CCI’s proactive role ensures a level playing field, fosters market efficiency, and safeguards consumer welfare, contributing significantly to India’s economic landscape.
Nature/Type/Work of Internship
Interns are primarily tasked with conducting significant research projects to aid the Commission, with access to CCI’s library granted to all selected applicants. Each intern is assigned a mentor, typically a Joint Director of CCI, with whom they discuss potential research topics.
After mutual agreement on a topic, the intern conducts independent research, receiving periodic feedback from the mentor, documented in weekly reports required for internship completion. Several research drafts are prepared and refined until the final draft is approved by the mentor. The completed research report is submitted to CCI’s Advocacy Division, followed by a presentation to fellow interns and Commission members.
Successful completion results in the issuance of a Certificate of Completion. Overall, the internship focuses on advanced research and enhances writing skills.

Application Procedure
The internship application process, detailed on the official website, requires submission one month prior to the desired internship month, either via official email or postal mail as specified. Applicants must complete the application form and provide their resume (CV), non-objection certificate (NOC) from their institution, and a statement of purpose (SOP) discussing their perspective on the Competition Act and proposed research.

First Day Formalities
On the first day of the internship, formalities will include participating in an orientation program led by directors and joint directors from various divisions of the CCI. This session will focus on the significance of the Competition Act and provide insights into the functioning of the CCI. Throughout the first week, interns will familiarize themselves with competition law and be tasked with selecting their research topics.
Each intern will meet with their assigned mentor to discuss their chosen topic. Moving into the second week, interns will commence developing their research and seek guidance from their mentors as needed. By the third week, interns should have a second draft of their research paper prepared, incorporating any revisions suggested by their mentors.
Towards the end of the internship, interns will seek final approval from their mentors before submitting their reports to the advocacy section. Additionally, each intern will be required to deliver a presentation on their research topic to the commission on the final day. Throughout this process, interns will have the opportunity to gain valuable insights, refine their research skills, and make meaningful contributions to the work of the CCI.
