The Court was hearing a petition alleging that Chaubey was not present and co-operating with the election petition filed by him before the Calcutta High Court.
In the election petition before the High Court, Chaubey had challenged the election of his opponent, now deceased Sadhan Pande, from the Maniktala constituency in the West Bengal Assembly election of 2021.
The petition before the Supreme Court was filed by three residents of the constituency raising grievance that their seat had gone unrepresented for years now.
